I always leave a few Milkweed plants under the windows in the garden. When I open the windows in the evening the scent coming into the house is intoxicating.
I never even tried. I will go out for a sniff soon.
I have a pot of lemon verbena near the door. I rub it each time I walk by or let the dog in. Suppose to keep away mosquitoes .
I was thinking about butterflies and hence about butterfly weed. I didn't look at your photo until now and I remember milkweed when I lived in Canada. I will look for it when I visit. I don't think it can grow in Texas.

Very good advice Lee Anne. What kind of milkweed is in your picture? Are they all that big? I like the size on that one.

Saw this in the random area of the site and thought I would post this,
In the local box store this year, I found scarlet milkweed... I picked up three and they are planted outside my workshop. They seem to be struggling with the Florida heat even with receiving water almost daily. I hope they will do better once the roots get better established.
In July and August, in the Okanagan, these wild Milkweed plants would perfume the air.
The Database shows two varieties that could have been the ones we had, and the ones that grow in your place in Brockville, Ontario. And their perfume certainly packs a wallop.
