Thanks Jay. I am a bit distracted lately.and didn't do a very good job of editing out my mistakes before I hit finished. It should read "a practice that just doesn't seem proper.."

The Trademark comment was from something Dr Pounders said and I took to mean using a trademark to garner better/higher prices.
" All I can say is that the practice is legal
and that many plants in the trade are sold under their variety
name as well as a trademarked name which helps to justify
marketing cost."

I think it is also done to protect the plant from propagation. A lot of people will think Trademark is synonymous with patent and think it is protected when the only thing that is really protected it the trademark itself.
