Hi, mgaet. Welcome! to ATP!

How hot is it where you are? My dianthus drove me nuts last year, doing the same thing as yours. Once the temperature cooled a bit, blooms finally opened.

We usually have summer temps around 80°F but it's been much hotter and much more humid than usual...sometimes feeling like low 90's ( global warming!?)
I'm in USDA 5 but the plants are in full sun all day. Thanks for giving me hope Smiling At least it's not something I'm doing wrong!

Our summer temps average in the mid 90s (Dallas area) and my dianthus do the same thing. Perk back up A) if I decide to water--which isn't often. Big Grin B) when the temperatures cool down.

Thank you so much for your responses..no one else ever knew what I was talking about and there is no info anywhere else about this particular problem Blinking I was beginning to think it was just me!! It makes a lot of sense though...they flower beautifully in the early summer and start drying out as the season progresses...I can't wait for them to come back! They're so pretty Smiling

I couldn't find any references to this when I looked for it last year either. But, now we know! Hurray!

We've had a period of cool weather here, so much so that our burning bush plants and oaks are starting to color early (!), and the pinks are flowering again. Smiling

This one is near our construction zone, so don't mind the sawdust. Whistling So far, it's escaped harm. Hurray!

Lovemyhouse,... Yes they do ...green stems and dried out buds..but my dianthus is the alpine mounding kind..silver blue long thin leaves..but same problem.

Chelle,... You have a beautiful plant...I hope mine rebloom too though I was really hoping there was something I could do to avoid this dry bud situation Sad ..Oh well... as you said; at least now I know.
