The microwave is a great way to quickly fix an ear of corn.

We grew our very first silverqueen sweet corn this year and it did great till the bugs got hold of it. I am new to this and messed up and used the wrong stuff for the worms and I think they used it as a salt substitute or a bathing salt LOL I did get a little but I was also a little late planting it. And all the rain we have had killed it all I was trying to grow a late season crop but way to much rain. My family loves sweet corn but my wife has a hard time getting the silk off it so this really made her happy Thank you for the info. Your gardening friends in Pensacola FL.

Damien: Congratulations on your first corn crop ... Very cool! I don't grow any vegetables; I don't have the space, but I've always dreamed of a veggie garden with a few rows of corn included!

Tip for your wife: I use a long handled dish/scrub type brush (kept in a kitchen drawer in a zipper bag to be used only for scrubbing veggies!) Shuck the leaves from the corn ears and using the brush, gently brush the silks off and rinse well. Depending on how lazy I am it usually removes pretty much all of the silk, then the brush goes in the dishwasher to keep bacteria from growing on it; when dry I put it back in the zipper bag and into the drawer.

p.s. I have to label the bag "FOR VEGGIES ONLY" so that my husband doesn't use the brush for other purposes like scrubbing his aquarium equipment! Smiling
