I just wanted to share some photos from Mr. Bill in WI who shared them with me. I have his email permission to post them here. He hybridizes martagons I think mostly for his own pleasure, but also sells the seeds on eBay. Just posting for your enjoyment.

Those are sure pretty martagons. That is one lily that I have not grown. I have heard they don't do well here.

Carolyn, yes, a few years. We are anxiously waiting. Whistling

Seriously though, please thank him for us. The photos add a lot of freshness to our end of season dullish gardens.

Caroline, did your seeds already produce tiny little bulbs? I haven't started any of mine yet. Fritillaria seeds will be the first, hopefully next week.

>>> No bulbs that I can see---yet.

I ask because you seem to be doing the opposite of what the seed requires. The normal practice is to keep seeds dry (at whatever temperature), then give them moist and warm(room temp) for germination and seed bulb production-3 months, then cold and moist(outside or in fridge)-3 months or more, then warm to get the first leaf to emerge.

It would be very unusual for a martagon seed to germinate in the fridge. They need warmth. Your seed in the cold may plump up, but they will just sit there and do nothing further. You are risking rot. Take them out and give them room temp and they will germinate. They can be in this first treatment for as long as 4 to 4.5 months, and the second possibly indefinitely.

Ya know, that's so funny. I have all these bendy characters, but no Gumby. As a child I had Pokey and my brother had Gumby, but those have been long gone. I've never bought one myself, except one at a garage sale. They have all been welcome gifts. Unfortunately, the newer ones are not as flexible. It wasn't easy to get Mr. Bill to stay posed that way.

Ummm.... it would really be fun to have plant bendies. I'd really love one that is like my avatar. nodding nodding nodding
