Took some pix of corn silage bagging, for those of you that don't know what I'm talking about. LOL The bagger and the big Deere on the bagger are ours, the wagons and tractors on the wagons belong to the guy doing the custom chopping. He's got a big Claas chopper, really eats up the rows.

I don't think they will post in any order, sorry about that. Green Grin!

Wow! That is a lot more efficient than the way we used to prepare silage!

My thoughts exactly Long way from a 25 door silo a blower and false end gates in the chopper wagons with a airplane landing gear to wind the cable up to unload the wagons

Dave, how come you're listed as a new member? Haven't you been here?

We still have tower silos, but the blower and self unloading wagons are a far cry from the old ones.

oof, that sounds like a lot of silage!

Stan looked at my latest goldenrod dyed scarves and asked if I was going to be bringing garbage bags full of goldenrod in to save to use during the winter and into the spring. I told him I had a box of flowers in the freezer. I also have a bag of elderberries in there. This is just way too much fun! He keeps looking at the weather and sighing. He'd like to mow Melissa's second cutting, but we have two nice days, then it rains just enough to keep him from haying. This week looks the same. Ah, well, October is coming...

The last he bagged there was 25 acres of corn and it made a 300 foot and about another 125 from another bag. They just cut it off and he'll use the other for another job. That guy used to have Harvestores...........well, his dad had them. Scott had them taken down, sold them and now uses bags.

The SU got rained out today with his bagging. They made a 300 foot bag of corn silage; started about 2 yesterday afternoon, and finished it about 1 this morning. He had a short night...........he had to be down there at 7:30 this morning to put on the 2nd 300 footer for the chopping today. Well, that lasted till about 1 this afternoon..........they got rained out. I suppose they will be hard at it again tomorrow morning. Next job will be for my brother, but he can't get his custom guy till next Monday. He's also doing a 300 foot bag, but will make a 100 at his farm and the other 200 at his other farm

No milking job this weekend. I could have had a job Friday night, but I have to work the feeder cattle sale on Friday, and I know I won't be done there in time to milk. Gads, that will almost be a vacation........no milking. Green Grin!

I made another big panful of roasted tomato sauce yesterday. This batch made 7 cups. I also made a batch of bacon jam and some lemon curd for my sister to taste. She is visiting from France, and she said she'd really like to taste that jam. Too bad it wasn't a hit. LOLOL However, the lemon curd sure was. And I made a loaf of homemade bread this morning for them to try both the jam and curd on. The bread was also a hit, since it was still a bit warm. Who doesn't like warm homemade bread?

We need to sort some heifers out of the bunch here at home, I think there are possibly 5 that are open, from the looks of them. All the others are in various stages of starting to show; some a lot more than others. Won't be too long and we'll have to sort some for Lentz to take back to his farm.

Yesterday when the SU was feeding the silage out in the bunk here at home, as he ran the last in from the mixer, the web from the discharge went right along with the silage into the bunk. Grrrr................he said he might could fix it, but it would no doubt break again, either in the dead of winter or when we were gone and one of the kids had to feed. Soooo...........off I go over to Platteville to the dealer and get a new web. (50 miles one way.........it was actually a nice relaxing drive all by myself). I asked the guy "and I suppose you are just giving these away???" He said "well, actually not". SU about vapor-locked when I told him it was a little over $1600.00.

Anna, I feel your pain. We have to have a new circuit board for the bulk tank - they have to order one from Mueller. Our tank is so old that none of the dealers have one that will work. It will be in the $1000 range, but you gotta have a working tank!

The weather here has been warm and clear, there is a whole lot of corn going into to silage. Stan has been working on wood. He wanted to mow Melissa's second cutting, but there aren't enough clear days forecast, so we'll wait.

I have to pick the lima beans today, and maybe deal with the celery. I never got it tied up, so it's quite wild looking.

Feels like fall so I have soup started in the crockpot. It is Bobs Red Mill Veggie Soup Mix. Not really a mix in that I think of a mix complete with seasonings. But this has none, you add your own. What it does have is the base for the soup. Green & yellow split peas, barley, lentils and pasta bits. So what I do is I add powdered bullion, either beef or chicken, onion flakes, a bay leaf. Then just crockpot till the died peas start to get soft. After that I add Harmony House Dehydrated Vegetable Soup Mix. That is made up of carrots, onions, tomatoes, peas, green peppers, green beans and parsley. It adds lots of flavor to the Red Mill mix.

Ends up with a really tasty thick and hearty soup. Of course you can make it thinner if you rather have it that way.

I just cook off the chicken, pick the meat and add some grated carrot, onion, celery and rice.

Happy Fall! this afternoon at 4:44, the sun will cross the equator and the days will shorten substantially over the next months. Aside from the shorter days, fall is one of my four favorite seasons.

We had the last of summer/first of fall storms through yesterday. Between sometime Friday night until this morning we had 4 inches of rain, give or take. The difference in leaf color was astounding from around 8 yesterday morning to 5 last evening. It was like the rain was washing the chlorophyll out.

The leaf pounding class was yesterday and it was a big hit (pardon the pun). Next time, I won't forget the ear plugs!
