As a comment about Double Daffodil (Narcissus 'Rip van Winkle'), valleylynn wrote:

Also known as 'Plenus'.
Rip Van Winkle is an heirloom dating back to about 1884. Considered a miniature.
It has whorls of narrow, pale greenish yellow petals, some with a slight twist. Blooms are 1 to 2" across.
This one naturalizes well.

Rip van winkle is not considered a miniature by the ADS and never has been. Classed as an intermediate.Unfortunately being sold as a miniature by many nurseries 'worldwide'...

Hi Anthony. Can you tell me what makes a narcissus a miniature? I love learning new things.

It all bewilders me at times too! 'A miniature is a flower named on the ADS approved miniature list'-consistently grows with reduced stature, has miniature flowers and correspondingly small foliage...I was shocked when I entered 'Bezza Babe' in miniature and was disqualified.....I always check 'Daffseek' which tells you all you need to know...good website.......................Growing liliums is not as posh as daffs!

What puzzles my is that my Rip Van Winkle is under 6" tall and the blooms are very tiny. You can tell how small the blooms are by the lady bug on one of them.
Yet I grew Tete-a-Tete the last two years. It is shown as a miniature. It is quite large. I was really disappointed, as I had planted it in my raised alpine beds with small type plants. It dwarfed everything near it. : (
