What I'm about to point out is so small but, I can't help myself. It may not even matter or it may be because it's intended.

On the "forums" Tab page: We have General Forums, Gardening, Plants, Regional Gardening and Not Exactly Gardening.

The "New?" column's width seem to be exactly the same width in all categories.
None of the other column widths align with each other except the Last Post (date) column of Gardening and Plants. The same is true of The All Things Plants page.

I'm a really, really visual person but do not judge these sorts of things. They don't matter to me personally, it's just something I notice.

P.S.- I can see that in some cases the anticipated width needed will be determined by the width of the phrase in a cell.

They are different tables and the columns of each individual table adjust according to the widest points of each row. To make them uniform table-to-table would mean sacrificing the natural flow of the tables themselves.

Having said that, I've noticed the distraction of the formatting as well and I'll contemplate a better solution.

I thought that may be the case, that the content of each cell may dictate the width. Thinking at least the Last Post column could be the same width throughout.

The problem with developing for the web is that anytime you over-ride the browser on anything, you leave yourself open to bugs and problems with other browsers' interpretation of the markup you've put in. Even something as simple as saying, "Make this column exactly 100 pixels wide" has consequences that are often unforeseeable until later.
