My Bonnie Best Apple tree is loaded this year. It's 4 years old. These are really tasty apples. Very brilliant taste. This variety originated here in Wis. by accident I believe. Parent are unknown, but some think the Wolf River may have been one of the parents, as they are very large apples.

I was expecting to see some broken branches, and lots of apples on the ground after last night's wind storm, but neither thing happend. Only a couple apple fell, but the tree is in one peice, and the apples are still on it. We really had some high winds.

Well, today I picked them. There were quite a few for such a young tree. Now I have to make apple sauce, freeze some, give some to friends, and the best ones will be stored for later use.

Making my mouth water for a nice crisp apple! We have to buy ours but we're trying to go to Mercier Orchard in Blue Ridge this weekend. I love Jonathans and they are hard to come by, and a fairly early apple so I hope they have some still.

And cider! we'll buy a few and freeze. When we lived in MD we would get the best cider I have ever had at Baugher's Orchard! Too bad that is a 13 hour drive for us now! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I would say there were more than a few! Great looking apples and it is making me want apples too. But I don't have any in the house now. Oh well.

I gave one of the big pails to one of my friends last night, and another one to the family that rents my rental house, and the rest I will either store or make into apple sause. I still have a lot of apple butter from previous years, so won't be making any of that this year. Might freeze some for pies too.

I just checked Mercier Orcharh and they don't grow Bonnie's Best. Thumbs down but probably because it wouldn't get enough chill hours this far south. Sounds like a great apple though, even better than Jonathan because it's bigger!

The only place I think it's available that I've seen is from Jung's here in Wisconsin. As you say, I would think it needs a longer chill time then it would get down in GA though. I just finished freezing a bunch of apples, so I'll have lots of apple pie this winter, lol. I had a pail full of those that needed to be used fast. I have them all frozen, so the rest I don't have to rush with. I have an apple crisp in the oven for dinner! Lovey dubby

Another first for me, I had frozen a bunch of the Bonnie Best apples, first time I've ever fronzen apples. Made some pies form them for TG, and boy did they hold up nice, Really made great pies. Now I'll probably be freezing more apples next year.
