Hi Susan,

I am the one in Gloucester Ma.

Our growing conditions and hardiness are MUCH different than way you are now living. DO NOT GO JUST BY ZONES.

For instance - In Ma. our growing season is much shorter in length. They number of HEAT DAYS (days over 90 degrees) is a huge difference. And repeat blooms in the north are very sparce even for Stella.

There are so many growers here that it would be better to wait until your grounds are ready and then purchase. Fall is a great time locally!

If you are thinking of selling daylilies, many sell well in the 10-15 dollar range and if you are just investing in daylilies that are only worth $1 - well, I suspect that they will not sell very well.

I do have a backyard nursery and hope that you can come visit. The only 'cheap' daylilies that I sell as landscape crops are $2 fan per $100 at one order. Mixed colors.

Be careful of the big wholesale nurseries that sell plants from their cold storage facilities. Takes a long time to recover and bloom.

Be careful of single fans. Takes them a long time to put on a show as well.

Hope this helps.

BTW, did I miss where in Ma you are planning on relocating?

Believe me - Bobbie's garden is not to be missed. It is fabulous. Anyone in the area, be sure to look her up. Whale watching and Bobbie's garden were the highlight of my trip.
