I have a few daffodils, all of the same variety that I don't know the name of, and they have their seasons a little confused. They are all 4-6 inches high already and I've never had any come up in the fall before. Are there varieties that do that? If not is this the beginning of the end for this variety?

There actually are fall blooming daffodils, however, the few I've come across were outlandishly expensive and relatively rare. Usually only available from the breeder (as far as I know).

Well these bloomed in the spring with the rest of them and now have put up these leaves.

Muscari does that, but I have not heard of daffodils doing that.
You may want to mulch them, or place a rose hut over them to protect them from the winter?
Occasionally, the daffodils here sprout early in the spring,--- and then if winter comes back :--the leaves turn brown?

I have a few confused bulbs, too. First time I have ever seen them come up in Fall.

i had a Rhododendron put out 4 small, confused blossom clusters a few weeks ago, None of mine, including that one, ever had a Fall bloom before.

I was just visiting a friend in Pennsylvania and he has some rhododendrons and daphne blooming now which have never done that before either. I wonder if this is the beginning of things to come with changing weather patterns or just some weird thing this year?

I'm in NYC & I have sometimes had daffodils start to come up in the Fall. I didn't mulch them but they were covered with pine needles. As soon as it got really cold they went dormant. They stayed a pale green & then bloomed like normal in Spring. I don't know about Canada but we've had a very mild Sept/October so that could be why they started to grow. I think they'll be okay but maybe that far north you should mulch them.

Thanks Elena, I think I will. We had a warm September and wet too which may have contributed to the early start.
