Now here's 'the rest of the story' . . .

Char, Juli and I had a great time behind the scenes, Tmails were flying and at one point acorns were flying back and forth as well, when we were trying to decide the best way of getting them to the winners. So finally yesterday sometime, it was decided that I'd post the winners at midnight - any midnight, didn't matter. That was my job, to post the winners at midnight. MY BIG JOB. I was so excited, I worked for an hour just making up a really witty paragraph to go along with the post.

Midnight comes here - Central Standard Time - so I write up this glorious post to announce the winners, Click Send - and poof, my computer just sits here doing nothing. I check all my tabs, DEAD. What!!! My computer is Poof and I can't post the winners. I check everything I know to check and finally look at the modem. No server. OMG! What to do, I promised to post at midnight. And my carefully worded witty paragraph of winners was lost out in cyberspace.

So I have an iPhone and for it to work when the server is down inside, I need to be away from the house. I go outside, in my jammies, to the end of the driveway, cold dark night -- no service. Everything is dead. So I shiver in the driveway for a while, thinking thoughts of hot chocolate or maybe hot buttered rum, but even so, no cell phone service, no internet service and it's long past midnight.

Finally I came in and by then it's after 1 a.m. here and I'm thinking Juli will be frantic because she was going to add the names to the Story Thread. I look frantically for her number, but no phone service for me. Now I live alone but I have two cats and a dog and by this time, sometime close to 1:30 a.m. we are all pacing. Me, the dog, and the two cats. I paced myself to the couch and finally gave up for the night at about 2:30.

At 6 a.m. a cold dog nose woke me and I jumped up to check the computer - and just as I did, there was Juli, 'Sharon, where are you??'

So finally the stars were all aligned and I threw a few words on the computer just in time for Juli to not have heart failure. Whew!

Sometimes we all have nights like that, and I sure am glad nobody was up waiting for me to post at midnight. But in spite of the shenanigans here at my house last night, the winners got their acorns and I posted the names and the animals are now all sound asleep at my feet. It was a really long night.

But well worth it, y'all made the contest great, just by writing, by commenting and by voting. Thank you for that. The stories will continue to be fun to read, and I'll continue to look up more of the daylily names just to put a face to the name. But for now, I really need a nap! Big Grin

Oh Sharon! I'd say you deserved a nap after that experience! I am sure you didn't think so but I am reading your story and it is so funny, one of those crazy things that would happen in a Sit Com. I can just see you out there in the dark in your jammies and the laugh track would be going! I am glad that it all worked out. Thumbs up

Yes, at one point yesterday acorns were flying between the three of us so much that I joked that Dave was going to wonder if we were having another Acorn Fight! LOL

I kept checking every hour or so last night, and finally checked the internet for Sharon's area, and figured she was getting bad weather, and either had a power outage or flooding. Glad it was not flooding! Whew! If she didn't post something this morning, I would have tried to call her, and then gone ahead and posted the winners.

I didn't sleep at all last night, because of the low pressure and the weather -- I kept getting up to check to see if Sharon had posted. At one point, Josie was getting annoyed... big groan, flopped her head over on the bed -- rolls eyes --- "can't you see I am trying to sleep here?" Rolling my eyes.

And it was cold, coldest night we've had, and I kept thinking that I might have locked myself out of my house. All's well, though, but I'm really thinking about a nap. But yes, Rita, it is pretty funny now that I think about it. And I'm sure if neighbors had been up at that hour, it would have been a real live comedy for them, too.

Well, DH and I have been there, done that -- and of course in our robes and had to break into our own house! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I locked myself out once. Was thinking with my luck police would come when I was breaking in to my own house. Fortunately no police and I was able to get inside.

That's how Juli was yelling through our Tmails when I was MIA after midnight.

'Yooo hooooo Sharon . . . "

And yep, Char slept through the entire cold, chilly, dark pajama clad episode.

Oh my goodness, Sharon! All I can think of is how cold and tired you must have been through all of it. Glad that you didn't lock yourself out and that everything turned out okay.

So sorry that you lost your paragraph to go with the announcement, I would have loved to have read that.

It was something about the winner coming from the North of me, and the second place sneaking in from the West, with third place on the far right of the map but practically all of them my next door neighbors! *Blush*

Lost that glorious paragraph to cyberland, and by the time my computer was working again and Juli was yooo hoooooooing for me, I couldn't remember a word of it. Sad

Don't you just hate it when you write something absolutely brilliant and the computer messes up and looses it? Even if you rewrite it immediately, it never seems to turn out exactly the same. Sad
