I thought this was Max sunflower but the leaves are not quite right. They are a lovely dark green. These are just starting to bloom here. Started from seeds.

Betsy, you didn't post a picture. If it is the same as the wild ones blooming in our area now, then it is Swamp Sunflower, Helianthus angustifolius.

Jay Swamp Sunflower didn't do well for me, I guess too dry around here?

Mine didn't do so great this year either, but they are blooming. I think they really need consistent moisture to look their best.

I really like the dark green leaves against the bright yellow.

It looks more like Swamp Sunflower then Maximilian to me.

Actually... it's neither.

I keep forgetting to take pictures of the other one... but it has stolons... and isn't as nice IMO.
