More toothy goodness from Pleasant Valley Gardens!

http://pleasantvalleygardens.n...

I've sent an e-mail about availability and prices (fingers crossed they have come down on some of the older one!) so that I can pare down to what I can afford! I love the look on STAR OF KRYPTONITE but it's collection only. Sad

I am planning on looking at everything when I get home this afternoon to see what I "have" to have Big Grin
The only thing with getting theirs in later than we normally do the others is that it then takes them 2 seasons to increase good. James Hall got the 2013 tet collection, which comes as SFs, and they have only increased to DFs. Give them another year and they will increase much better.
I got their 2013 dips and they have increased a little more than the tets but not much.

Gah! I was finalizing my order and they sold out of Body Snatchers. Oh well.

Also, can't say I ever saw myself typing that in a sentence! Rolling on the floor laughing

I did manage to snag a fan of Van Helsing which was collection only last year so I am pretty happy about that.

I think it's wonderful that you got a fan of VAN HELSING, James, even though you lost out on BODY SNATCHERS (and I, being the SciFi buff that I am, love that name!). I think VAN HELSING is the toothy one I would love the most to get -- maybe someday, sigh...

P.S. In addition to all the toothies, I think QUEST FOR FIRE is really lovely too.

Thanks Betty. I've been coveting VAN HELSING for a while. I randomly threw it onto the list I was asking about not really expecting to be able to get it.

I like several of his non-toothy ones but only ordered a couple of his dips.

Does anyone grow Polston's Crested Dragon?
I can't get mine to set a pod, I'm wondering if anyone else has any problems with it

Polston's toothy daylilies have captured my imagination in so many ways. I am swimming in seeds that I have purchased on the LA from imaginative crosses purchased over the last couple of years from his toothy wonders. I also gave in and purchased 'Red Ragamuffin', the plant, in Sept. In his 2014 collection, which is simply gorgeous, my fav's are "Armed to the Teeth', 'Sunset Ruffles' (an amazing purple dl edged in orange, wow!), and 'Sweet Almond Mist' a borrowed Hansen look-a like( new architecture, which Polston acknowledges). All simply wow dl's!! But my absolute favorite Polston in not a Tetroploid, but rather a Diploid. I am in love with 'Lemon Drop Lollipops', a stunning appliqué. I don't buy dips anymore, but I may just give in and buy this one, just to see its beauty blooming in my garden everyday. I hope someone coverts this one to a Tet. Outstanding daylily.

I placed my first (and last) order from them this year. Even though I explained that I live on the gulf coast of Louisiana and would appreciate an earlier ship date than May, it wasn't to be. I could live with that, even though May, for me, is the same, temperature-wise, as the heat of summer, but for the prices I paid for the new introductions, I was NOT happy to receive pencil-thin single fans. Tiny fans that MAY Bloom in a couple of years....Never again.

I really, really like Tom's plants and may be the only one who has this issue - and it is a personal choice. I just prefer not to buy plants from those who make some of their new plants a part of a "collection only." IMHO, that discriminates against the buyer who may not have either the room for an entire collection or the money to buy the entire collection. When some of these come on the secondary market, it would be great to add them eventually.

Welcome! Judy -- and I believe I recognize your username from the Lily Auction. I think you'll find this a wonderful forum where we discuss all sorts of "stuff", and your contributions will surely be welcome.

I agree with both of you, and this is good information. Once or twice in the past I have received a pencil-thin fan or two from someone through the Lily Auction, and after that I have avoided their auctions; but I have only received one disappointing order from a hybridizer over the past few years -- and I have never gone to that website again. Oh yes, and also the one where I ordered the DVD on his website and he kept my money and never delivered -- are you reading this Bobby? Sure hope so! Well, live and learn is all I can say.

Are the "collection only" daylilies restricted to the exotic toothy ones, or are there other hybridizers who do that? I can see where they feel they must have enough for all the collections they want to sell, but that certainly lets the rest of us out for at least the first year. Oh well -- good things are worth waiting for, I guess, plus if people are disappointed we might find out through this forum so we can avoid the same problem.
