The turtle came back...
But the camera batteries gave up before I could get decent video :(

The turtle interacted with the cats.... It got tired of the cats following it... And acted aggressive toward them... Borrowed some moves from the snapping turtle... Sent the cats scurrying!
Very funny...

My cat Toby is a real scaredy-cat, but discovered that wild female turkeys are so laid back that they would not bother him.

So he boldly "chased" them around the yard for a while, "stalking" them until they moved slowly away, unruffled.

Well, eventually the Tom turkey decided he didn't want any little cat messin' with HIS ladies, so he came out of cover and went after Toby.

THAT was a turkey of a different color! The Tom never bothered moving very FAST, but he kept on zeroing in on Toby and getting steadily closer.

Well, that scared the little guy and he did his best to stay away from the Tom - but now his ego was involved! After his boldness "chasing" hens that mostly ignored him, he didn't want to admit that he was afraid of a Tom turkey three times his size.

So he tried to look like he was sauntering casually in directions that just HAPPENED to be away from the determined Tom. But the turkey was faster than the cat.

Pretty soon Toby was "sauntering" faster and faster until he was zooming around the corner of the house in full flight.

The turkeys went back to their business of picking bugs and worms out of the lawn.

I never laughed out loud, in consideration of Mr. Toby's wounded ego.

Poor Toby Lovey dubby Growing up I had a cat named Tuffy. Every year there was one mocking bird that would dive bomb him no matter WHERE he was or WHAT he was doing....which was usually minding his own business...he learned right quick not to mess with that crazy bird.

Ohhh, that must REALLY have gotten Tuffy's goat. Cats hate to be mocked.

The fastest way to get Toby to stop doing something is to make fun of him for doing it. Sometimes I also use a disappointed tone, like "I thought YOU knew better than THAT, Mr. Toby!"

But that's so mean that I don't do it often. More likely, Becky and I will be stifling our laughter while assuring Toby solemnly that, yes, we DO understand that he INTENDED to fall off that chair, and that he was still dignified and awesome to us.

Usually cats are smarter than dogs, but in this case, maybe not.

Toby is SWEET, not smart.

Regarding the armadillo comment, I bet you would change your mind if you saw how cute, playful and silly they are as young'uns....They like belly scratches and will close their eyes and hold your finger if you scratch their tummy with it....

I was born and raised in South FL in the 60's & 70's and had lots of critters around... I always said that if you ever wanted to make a grown man look like a fool, tell him to catch an armadillo... those things are SURPRISING fast and zig and zag all over the place. Had a friend that tried to catch one and he was flopping around on the ground like a fish out of water.... never did get it!! But we all had a great laugh. Rolling on the floor laughing
I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying

Among all the trash and habitat destruction that I encountered in a my brief life in Central Florida,I was amazed to still find an abundance of Gopher Tortoises living among all the bums, beer bottles, and rubbish.
