Elephant Ears (Caladium praetermissum 'Hilo Beauty') a plant by any other name...is a beauty! Smiling Does go dormant. I bought a tuber and promptly killed it. How do you deal with it in z7b @homer1958?

Deebie, I have Hilo Beauty here and it does go dormant every winter even in Florida! As soon as we consistently are getting nights in the low 50's it gradually disappears. Jumps right back up in the spring. These have been in the same pot for 3 years. I just add timed release fert in the spring, and again in late May, and they go crazy all summer. Think I will divide them this year after they die back. There must be a lot of tubers in that pot by now.

They act like Caladiums, but there is still some debate as it was sold as an Alocasia until just recently. It's definitely taller and has bigger leaves than any of my Caladiums.

I'm going to leave it in the ground Evan. Cover it with Shredded leaves. We have not had hardly any rain, so I think they will do well covered up nice and dry over the Winter.

Thanks Drew, between you and @Swayback I decided to leave a few in ground this winter. A few other tender tropicals as well. They're mulched, will add plastic on top and a little more mulch...keep my fingers crossed.
