The newest intro from David Kirchhoff and Mort Morss.

I love that you can click on larger resolutions of each daylily to really see the fine details. Be sure to check out Barbara Mandrell, there are additional pictures with both hybridizer's and the daylily namesake.

I wonder which picture on their website of Barbara Mandrell is more accurate? Have you seen the actual flower in person, Sue? I do love both pictures, but they look quite different to me. I purchased Talladega based on the hybridizer's photo, and the actual flower looked nothing like that picture when it bloomed for me, so I ended up disappointed. Of course, I simply could not afford to purchase Barbara Mandrell at this point anyway -- but it really is gorgeous! And thanks for the link, as I did not have that website in my favorites!

No, I haven't seen any of the new intros since I haven't been to visit any hybridizer's since 2003 I think it was. Last time I saw David and Mort nursery, they were still in FL, they have since moved to KY. Personally, I always wait until I can see photos from other gardeners growing a plant, so many of the catalog photos are taken in a greenhouse which makes a big difference as to how they look in a garden. Also, many of the daylilies look so different for us here in Calif. as we just don't have the humidity most of the hybridizer's have.
I do know that David is a master with doubles and reds, both his specialties. Mort does beautiful etched eyes and tends to stay with the bluish eyes and lavender purple blooms. You can just look at a page of their intros and know who produced what!

Thank you Sue! And I'm starting to realize that since I really haven't seen any daylilies in anyone else's garden I may really be surprised when I see all those I purchased this year in bloom. So far I've had a few from Maryotts bloom for me, and I've been really pleased, so hopefully it will be a great experience!

Oops, my brother is calling long distance, so will have to continue this later...

Sue, I found one of the etched eyed daylilies by Mort Morss in their gallery that I really like and would love to purchase for the eye pattern, but it's not listed on their price list page so I'm guessing it's not for sale this year. Too bad -- it's COUNTED SHADOWS, and I really like the clear pineapple yellow background with that design. So I googled it and really couldn't find it anywhere else. Are you familiar with that one? According to the AHS database, it was registered in 2000 and is an Ev Tet, which I'm looking for. I like the way the first layer of color in the eye as you go in toward the flower center bleeds into the yellow flower color, followed by different bands. If no one else is carrying it, should I take that as a sign that maybe it wouldn't grow very well here? Or do you know of another daylily that has this same "bleeding pattern" with a strong yellow background that would be just as good or better?

I have not seen that one, not the best picture of it here on DG, must have been a cooler night. It's not wide open enough, I don't even like taking pictures of daylilies if they are not fully open but sometimes that's the only way they show in different zones. http://davesgarden.com/guides/...
There are many with that bleeding heart design, of course my memory is not the best so right now I can't think of one. Just because it's harder to find doesn't mean anything as regards to it not being a good plant though, it's just that it's older and perhaps not as coveted anymore. My Mom's current Eureka price catalog should be coming in any day now and I can check if anyone is listing it.
Currently I am going through Marietta's list of plants, lots of great pictures and prices there so I will see if anything pops out that is similar. I am looking for a few great older ones..

Thanks Michele! I have been trying to access the Daylily Manor website since last night, and it keeps saying "Safari can't open the page" -- so of course I'm hoping they're getting their website updated rather than that there's a problem with my accessing it. I already have an order I'm supposed to receive from them in March, since they couldn't send it this fall, and I can add to that order. And if they drop it, I guess I could try the other place. Also, Sue said they may be in the process of updating the Daylily World prices so possibly I could get it from them too. Thanks so much!

My Safari was super slow accessing the Daylily Manor website. It seems a lot of times (in my case) if there is a lot of graphics, Safari will take forever to load. Also, with my Safari if it says "Safari can't access website" I have to turn it off and restart it. I just figure it's because I'm way out here in the boonies and the Internet signal sucks big time. On my PC we have dial up which is even worse!!

oh Ganymede is a beauty! Sure glad they moved to Ky. Florida daylilies never are quite the same here , they usually don't look like the pics and they shrink like crazy. Maryotts don't do that coming from CA. and I thought they would. Go figure!
