This is so cool! My husband taught me this trick many years ago. Only we don't cut the top off completely, we leave a little bit attached so that the tie never gets lost.

I do this too. Also do the same thing with bags of frozen veggies and meats and the bags of salad mix....works great.
Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it.

I have a few large, metal binder clips that I use for that. The black spring metal grips really tight. They also work for bags of chips.
