Lovely, Rhapsody! I'm definitely going to try my hand at some Iochroma next spring!

Hmm, let's see now, where can I clear out a space?? Rolling my eyes.

Thanks Elaine. I have yanked and pulled and made as much space as I can in the ground. Just about all walls have 5 gallon buckets lining them. I get inspired to find more space every time there is a brug or iochroma I want. I am just in love with these plants!!

Doing a lot of plater size upgrades. My back doesn't like me right now. Some of the brugs I purchased and traded for last year are ready to go from the one gallon pots into 3 or 5 gallon pots. Lots of potting soil and compost from Home Depot... already need more!! When they get to bloom'n I will post picts!

Be careful there, Rhapsody. Can't wait to see the new bloomers.

I pot my brugs up several sizes from one gallon to even a 5 gallon pot, just to save work. The plant will grow into the pot, no doubt about it.

I was told not to plant them in pots more then one to two sizes large. I would love to put the one gallon plants in a five gallon pot. Do you think that will be ok? I do have a lot of work to do with them. Even bought paint pens to write on the outside of the pot to insure the label never get lost. Any advise is more then welcomed!

Yeah, I know but brugs grow so fast . . . I had one - my first start of Monster White - go from a cutting size to a 4ft. shrub in one season. Three times I re-potted it. The heck with that, let the thing grow!

My belief is the bigger pot you put it in the bigger it will get by the fall. If you want to hold them back to a certain size, that's the only good reason to use smaller pots.

That being said, my huge ones are now in the biggest pots that I can handle, so I just prune them back after each bloom cycle to keep them going in the same pot. I've yanked them and refreshed the soil once, and I add scoops of new potting soil on top occasionally after I fertilize. I may eventually have to resort to root pruning, but really I think I'll just grow a new plant. The big ones can retire to the back garden, and will slowly decline - they can't compete with all the tree roots around our house.

These pictures show the cuttings started in early May of 2011. The wimpy one on the left is Monster White. The other two pics were taken in September of 2011. Nuff said.

Nuff said! I think the larges pot I can handle is the 5 gallon. I have a nice size collection going. I did not ever think I would have more the 30 plants but what can I say... I am hook!

Yep, 5gal. is about my limit as well. Still have to let them dry out to actually move them, or put them on the mover's dolly.

Yes, aka hand truck. Has a plate at the bottom that you slide under the heavy object, then tip it back onto the wheels, and you can get that thing over just about any terrain.

Gotcha! My favorite toy store is Home Depot, too! Hilarious! Lowe's comes a close second, and has a better nursery . . .

But the head Tool Geek in our family is my DH who is an engineer. Of course he has every tool known to man, and had to build a 1000sq. ft. shop to house them all.

Sounds like you are a girl after my own heart. I built my green house and came up with the pains myself. Local Home Depot knows me by name LOL!!
