Thanks, Susie and thanks for the acorn! The echinacea kept spreading and bloomed in sync with the lilies and yarrow. Sometimes we gardeners get lucky.

Thank you so much. It would be an experience for everything to bloom at once but that would be overwhelming, I'm sure.

Without the huge amount of mulch, and some Preen, the gardens would be in sad shape. I'm only sorry I waited so long to accept using mulch. We had used our own compost (for mulch) but found it was ideal for stray weed seeds and they grew all too well. Lesson learned.

Ahh but it isn't just the blooms that are beautiful is it? Even though it is the blooms that make the prettiest pictures, it is the shapes and textures and colors of foliage that also show off the blooms. From the pictures I've seen, I bet your gardens are beautiful even when there isn't much blooming!

Foliage really makes such a difference. When I first began to garden I didn't appreciate the many forms and shapes, nor did I love coleus, hosta or numerous other plants but now I've learned and in many cases prefer them over flowers.

Not what I'd call beautiful right now! When I look at the gardens in winter I think of all there is to come for spring and that does bring joy.

And even though I'm not ready for the cold, my body is ready for the rest and it gives my mind a chance to relax and decide which changes it would like to make for the next year. I guess I also find beauty in my snow covered garden,(except where the deer are digging down and eating the daylilies)!

Yes, the chance to relax for a few months is welcome. I love the snow covered garden, too, and often take photos and then enter the plants in the garden on a blank canvass of snow.

You have the miserable deer just as we do! They don't dig for plants here but wait until they're about to bloom, then eat them. In the case of hosta they eat them from May to December.

Darn deer!!!!! The photos sound beautiful.

My photo program was on the fritz so I delayed replying and now I can't find the photo of the vegetable garden with labels in the snow to show you but here's one of the courtyard Japanese iris garden to give you an idea.



I'm sure I did it with the garden at the cast iron gate but can't locate it.

So now we wait for the resurrection!

Yes, we do but today we have nice weather and no hint of snow.

You are so much more organized than I am!

We are at the beginning of a snow storm and it's suppose to get down to 20 below at the end of a week with high temps only above minus a couple of days for awhile after that. So no melting here!

We have two neighbors, down the block, and each have a child (adult) in Minnesota.

I only worked outside for an hour today. I'm sure I should have gone out earlier and will do that tomorrow.

Oh gorgeous. I love love that combo. Guess Triumphator is next on the list to purchase. I wish I had more luck with coneflowers. I still think I water too much. Lilies do great, but coreopsis and coneflowers seem to just die. What about Gallardia. Is that a perennial or maybe a biannual. I have had some huge patches for a year or so then nothing.
