Sighing! I apologize ladies, I know better and was just having a joke at your expense. *Blush*
I have 2 friends that put their husbands to shame in DIY, one even tunes-up her own car, the other can plaster a wall and set stone. *Blush*

Well, any help I can get I will take Smiling
Yesterday and today I (We) got a lot done. I did have to keep checking squareness and level a lot as my back rafters that attach to the crown weren't lining up. The front was was off as well but just by an 1/8 of an inch. Again my perfectionist that I said I was going to throw out the window. But the back was off by 1 1/2 inches. As I attached the rear rafters (parts 8 & 9) to the vertical studs (parts 18 & 19), when they met at the peek where the crown attaches they were over lapping each other. I tried a whole bunch of things and no matter what I did it came out the same. So, I ended up adjusting the bolts that slid into parts 8 & 9 higher. Which also meant the the rafters weren't flush with diagonal edge of parts 8 & 9. But, that was the only way to make it work!
So, then my next problem was trying to attach part 79 to part 8 & 9 where they met at the peek for the crown. That's impossible to do. Again I tried messing with it again checking levelness and squareness but couldn't get it to line up and fit it there. See pics below.
Well, the framing is all done. Tomorrow I get to start painting the wood and install my new gutters (which I'll go into detail of how it works with the greenhouse)
This is where I'm at now. Excuse the ladders. I got tired of moving one all over the place so I just set a few of them up everywhere for easy convenience and laziness. Big Grin

Part 79 and the place it's supposed to go. See how there is no way it will fit on that lip.

While I claim all bragging rights to our greenhouse, I think we can all agree there are some very frustrating points during the construction no matter what your gender, your age, or ability. I feel lucky I didn't deal with any off-square issues. And in all seriousness, that was just Beginner's Luck on my part. But there were other issues that frustrated me to no end that made up for that, I'm sure.

Stick with it, Lucky. With each part comes a newer challenge. This I know is true. Work carefully and slowly. Prepare to undo and redo. May you be blessed with patience of a Saint!

I remember putting some of the gable pieces in backwards, and yes, redoing the whole thing. When I did mine it recommended assy. of the "roof" and then lifting into place. We did just that and it went fine.

I recall my plans for a Raise the Roof Party when it came to that point. When I got there, it was surprisingly easy to do it alone. I missed out on a party! But yes, the illustrations in the instructions left much to be desired in regards to which way was up, down or in or out!

After reading all the posts concerning the HF greenhouse, I am glad I chose not to choose that option.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

Update: I'm now ready for the start putting in my 2X4 support beams. I do have to notch out some spots but this will make the green house a lot stronger.

I've finished notching out the cedar fencing and painting all the boards. I applied the silicone to the outside and inside of the steal base. Then saw gaps that would later allow water leakage in the base corners and where the base connects together in the middle. So, I added silicone there as well. I cut all the strips out for the foam to go inside the base. I chose to have the shinny film face the inside as I didn't think it would make a difference either way I put it in. I then installed the ceder fence boards to the base. Now, I'm at the phase of applying my own reinforcements. Since I'm going to apply 2X4s I have to notch out some sections so its flush with the greenhouse side wall braces. I'll be using angle braces at the bottom and then adding screws drilled from the outside into 2X4s. In all I'll have 10 vertical stud braces, 2 12ft braces going along side walls and 4 10ft braces with 2 going along the walls and 2 running left to right in place of what some use the EMT for. All in all there will be braces everywhere. The main ones are the vertical ones that will act as studs that increase the integrity of the green house 12ft length wall center section. As I see a lot of photos of where their greenhouse caved in the middle at the part no EMT was installed.

Lucky you could also paint your interior structure white to help reflect light. Compared to what you plan my EMT frame is sparse, but the steel is stronger.

Ken, I found my HFGH to be well planned and well fabricated, everything fit extremely well. It was the instructions that were a horror. Old Mud House's blog was very useful in being one step ahead of the problems. There was one segment that dealt with putting the extra bolt needed for shelves etc. that prevented a lot of redos.

Ric, DIYer's would perhaps not have too many problems constructing the HFGH. When I see page after page of inconsistences/errors and then pages of how-to reinforce a structure beyond what the manufacturer's plans called for, well, I choose other options. I have been very pleased with my greenhouses.

I'm sure you are Ken, Smiling Holly's dad bought this for her, and I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Hilarious! I reinforced ours because of the terrible snow load we can receive. It is also useful for hanging baskets. We have a friend in Florida that has one of these, sans inner frame and his works fine, and in a protected spot in your area may be the same. On mine once I figured the right orientation of the part there was no real problem. such as redrilling holes. It was a well designed frame made with great accuracy and the price of $600-$700 was a good start for a beginner in GH. I would have liked it better if he'd gifted her a fully equipped

Very, very happy with my HFGH. As with any construction project there are pitfalls. Just trying to warn Lucky ahead of time like others did here for me. Trust me, if *I* can build it ANYONE can, even you, Ken! Rolling on the floor laughing

Love, love, love the blog and options presented for whatever climate a builder might have. I don't have need for snow support. In fact, I didn't do much of the reinforcements to the building structure as suggested.I also know i can add that in the future as needed. Great options! But the options are there and tested. I appreciate that someone took the time to publish then and made them available to all HFGH Builders.

Others' customization are great too! It shows what can be done with this versatile kit! Thumbs up
