One of the nice things about a heated greenhouse - even a minimally heated one, is that I always have flowers, even on the nastiest and coldest days. My mainstays are the geraniums that constantly bloom all year, then the Bougainvillea and Kalanchoe that bloom usually in mid Winter. Every once in a great while a plant that is suppose to be dormant will throw out a bloom. My Blue Butterfly Bush, Rotheca myracoides gifted me with two blooms! What a delightful surprise.

A nice surprise in the cold days of winter indeed!! I have a few blooms on my pudica as well. Greenhouses are a wonderful thing for helping Mom Nature give us beauty year 'round!

I couldn't live without mine! Being extremely cold natured, it's a blessing to be able to walk into the 90 degree 'jungle' on the really cold days. I may be crazy, but I'm thinking too that the air in the greenhouse has more oxygen in it as well since I almost immediately feel more alert when I walk in and close the door behind me.

This is my first year with a greenhouse. I couldn't be happier with it. I say, if it's too cold for me then it's too cold for the plants. I'm cold today!! Though we don't usually get as tough a winters as most, this year has been colder than normal for us. I am sure the plants are happy with the temporary structure. We are struggling to reach 50º right now. But the sun is out. So both ends of the greenhouse are open for sun and air circulation. But the heater is still on. They fair far better than they did in the garage. Yet, with limited space in the greenhouse, there are a lot of plants in the garage still. I will have to remember to put the bougainvialla in the gh, as they struggle each winter in the garage with not enough sunlight. But every spring they come back. DD used to live in Summerville, then Goose Creek. You do get some cold temps out there, Anne. A lot colder than Houston. Do your Butterfly Bush flowers have a scent?? A scented flower in a warm greenhouse sounds very inviting!

I've never been able to detect a scent from any of the Rothecas and I sniff everything that blooms (sometimes much to my regret! Lol) .. a few have surprised me .. like Morning Glory's .. some of them have a very evanescent lemony scent in mid morning, about the time the pollen fluffs up that lasts only about an hour and only if they are in direct sun.

This years Fall has been the most schizophrenic Fall I've ever experienced temperature wise. In the last 8 weeks we've had highs in the mid 80's and high's only in the mid 40's just days apart with a few nights of lows in the mid 20's! Some of my Leucojum are actually blooming! 10 weeks early!
