I agree with Sue that we need a regional gardening forum for the Pacific Coast states. Our California Living Cubit is simultaneously too limited and too expansive to suit that purpose, as it pertains only to California and it includes far-reaching topics having nothing to do with gardening.

Sue discussed the need for it somewhere, but I can't find her posts. I suppose they might have been on one of the Cubits threads about the new site.

I think it would be fascinating and attract a lot of traffic if it included not only California, Oregon, and Washington, but also Alaska, Hawaii, and the west coast of Canada, although I suppose it's a stretch to call any part of Canada a "state." Okay, so it's a Pacific Coast Regional Gardening Forum, without the "states" in the title.

Yes Zuzu, it was on Cubits, I wrote "I have always thought a Western Regional Gardening forum would be good to have, The Calif. ones seemed too slow, both on DG and Cubits. I was looking through the Sunset Western Gardener book and it includes WA, OR, CA., AZ, NM, CO, AK and HI as the western states. It would be nice to have that and from there if someone wishes within that forum, they can start new threads for specific states or regions."

But there is a Southwest forum which includes AZ, NM, & CO so I said what remains is the Pacific Western Regional states.

I agree

I'm in CA, but mom and 2 sisters are in WA. I am frequently helping them with garden ideas and find that most things that grow in my region also grow in theirs. It would be great to have them all in one forum.

Valleylynn, I did some checking and when I get to Ventura CA I will also be in zone 8. How's that. I'm going to get a space in a community garden a few blocks from the mobilehome park where my son lives and than I can garden. There is no room around his trailer.

Marti, more accurate for California is the Sunset zone for Ventura...which is Sunset zone 24.You're going to love Ventura if you hate hot weather. Mild, quite often overcast. Not a lot of heat for the heat loving plants, but so many other things thrive.

We're going to need those Sunset zones when this forum gets going! The West Coast includes Alaska to Hawaii! I'm looking forward to it! Our weather patterns this year are sooo different , especially this year, than the rest of the country.

Ventura is zone 8? I lived not far from Ventura, we froze to death in the winter, it would get way down into the 50's. Brrrrrrr. Whistling

I lived in Ventura about 14 years ago and loved the weather. It was weird though because it would be really nice and cool in Ventura and just 10 mile up the road in Santa Paula it was 105.

Thanks for the information about Sunset zone information.

12 more days and I hit the road!!! Thumbs up
