I have some hoya cuttings and don't know how I should go about rooting them. I know that this is the wrong time of year to do this. But, more than half of my mother plant has died due to faulty watering and low humidity and I decided to cut off some of the branches in order to rescue it. What is the best way to treat them? Do I have to wait until they form callouses and if so, how long? Do I put them in water, perlite, or potting mix?

I have rooted my hota cuttings in soil/perlite mix and then put them under lights. I would check them often to make sure they do not dry out too much.

My one hoya did not do well in the greenhouse. It looks as if it rotted. Any hints on trying to save it??

if it is rotting, I would take some cuttings. Carol (Aloha Hoya) is the expert. Myself - I would cut away the rotted parts and let it dry out.

I have a H. carnosa 'Hindu Rope' that was just one long piece. I clipped a cutting from the end of that piece, made a small hole in the soil, and merely stuck it right back into the pot…It is growing like crazy! I don't know if this is just that the H. carnosa is very simple to root? Or if I was just lucky.

Which Hoya is it that you have?

My default method with cuttings is to lay them on top of the media and weigh down the nodes with rocks....keeping the soil moist but no soggy. 99% success with this method.

now my bella hoya i rooted in a little water in a baby food jar . I find a shallow jar such as a baby food jar works really well with a little water in it works best for me and I have usually rooted most of my plants that way ...

Years ago I rooted many different types of plants in water but I always seemed to have a hard time getting the thin, watery roots to acclimate to soil and most cuttings ended up dying.
