I like irises with some distinct veining, or strips, thought it would be fun to look at what we have with these characteristics.

Tom, I love Haunted Heart. I have a few of the Circus iris and some like Daughter of Stars that seem to glow through lines. They get more 'I want a piece of that one' from friends and family than my most ruffled ones do.

I remember in the 1970's when the hybridizers were working for "clean hafts". Few or no stripes then.

Mary Ann, I have Parquet Lady, a bb, and Thornbird also. I lost Beverly Sills due to her area becoming too shady.....she was another iris I bought in my quest for a true pink and grew to love anyway.

I'm having trouble up-loading this morning. I think it's the "shared wifi, here at the campground, but here's a couple of "NOIDs-for-now" I think the first is Neglecta, and the 2nd, Sans Souci

Paul I have some very old light colored iris that have muddy or even gray/brown hafts. They are not lovely at all but I keep them for sentimental reasons. Perhaps this is what they were trying to control. The hybridizers have certainly done a good job in giving us both clear iris and stripes and broken colors. A talented lot of folks!

Paul, here are pictures of old yellow NOIDS that look better in pictures than in person. Clearing up these hafts would only make things better.

This trait kept cropping up in new irises and seemed to be making the falls more cloudy.

Tom Great Thread !!!

Wonderful pictures all… It is hard to pick a favorite one of all of these shown, there are a lot of good ones here and of all the different patterns out there in Iris, I think the lines in the falls and plicata's show the most promise the possibilities seem endless there are thousand's of self's in every shade with hybridizer's trying to improve on them every year, but many look like the same to me but I think with with these two pattern's we could really see some distinctive design's and new colors one of the things I enjoy most about visiting gardens on the west coast is seeing something different in the seedlings. I spent a lot of time last spring trying to figure out how to put stripes and different beards on some of my favorite self's because I don't think I can improve on the color of them but there are other areas I can improve or at least find something Unique like these above they are all one of a kind that is intriguing to me, one can spend a lot of time pouring through the catalog's and pedigree's of some of these coming up with a plan for something different Big Grin That is the fun part !! Here are some of my favorites in this pattern.

Oh, here goes more additions to my wish list, Gotta have Friendly Advice, Center Line and for sure Patchwork Puzzle and Winning Hand. When I saw Winning Hand in a clump at your place last summer, it was breath taking, almost neon in color. I have Wonders Never Cease and Jeanne Clay Plank, but they haven't bloomed yet. Get Rhythm has to go on the list too. Oh my, I guess I better win the lottery!

Ken, I got Ink patterns last year as a bonus. I'm anxcious to see it bloom

Paul I used to think the same when I had plants with Leaf Spot and Rust but after visiting most of the major gardens I realized it must not be that big of a deal in the health of the plant just about every major grower I seen had it everywhere and the largest of them all Schreiner's had it the worst the two that had none what so ever (Superstition and Napa) have a pretty intense spraying program and you could definitely see great results from it but they both don't get anywhere near the rainfall that Oregon gets and I think for most growers on a commercial level it is about impossible to get rid of it. How do you treat 200 acres on a weekly basis and still pay the light bill ? I could be wrong and maybe they do treat there fields for it but Shrug! Who Knows, I really struggled with it this year at home in mine I was doing well until just after bloom season and then we had a couple rainy weeks and it seemed to explode. I sprayed mine all spring with a fungicide and sticker up until bloom but I am beginning to think it is more of a soil based fungus than something that is in just a particular plant, I have not given up trying to get rid of it all together but it certainly is a tough nut to crack.
