I think you will be surprised by how many of these you can cram into a box. They are more of less stuck together & a pr is very thin before you pull them apart to start using them.
Blessed are the Quilters for they are the Piecemakers.

Another thought...Since the order is currently more than 4 times the minimum, I wonder if they would give you an even better price?

Regarding postage... Are you trying to avoid shipping the gloves by weight? It would probably be cheaper for those nearer you, but I can understand that you may not want to because it might be harder to keep the records straight.

Go to your local post office -- or call them -- and see what they say about lumpy packets with the flat rate padded envelope. I've had my local branch interpret the rules differently than info I found elsewhere, and it cost me extra postage... I was only shipping seeds, so the extra didn't add up to as much as if you end up needing to switch from flat rate envelopes to teh medium size boxes.

Looking at the medium flat rate box, I can slide a stack of 6 pairs of medium 370's or a stack of 3 pairs of medium thermo's into the box. There's enough extra space in the width of the box that L or XL gloves should fit similarly, although XL thermo gloves might start getting pretty tight. Looks like 4 of those "stacks" would fit along the length of the box.

So I'd estimate that the medium flat rate box should hold 24 pairs of 370 garden gloves, maybe only 18 pairs if all are XL. The same box should hold 12 pairs of thermo's, maybe only 9 pairs if they are XL. It's possible that more gloves could be stuffed in than I'm estimating, but I'd need 30 pairs of gloves on hand to test whether or not they'd really fit.

The small flat rate box will hold 6 size medium 370's, maybe only 5 if they're large or XL. It will hold only 2 size medium thermo gloves -- and larger thermo gloves would be hard to cram in at all (in addition to being bulkier, they are not anywhere near as flexible as the regular garden gloves) .

Although I didn't have the actual numbers in hand to try, I think the large flat rate box looks like it'll hold half again the numbers of the medium box -- that is, up to 36 pairs of Atlas 370's, or up to 12 pairs of thermo's plus 12 pairs of 370 garden gloves. Again, if you're ordering mostly XL, you need to adjust those numbers downward.

***

That said, I think Sandy should stick with the estimated numbers she posted above, for people needing to pay postage in advance. It's good to have some margin, especially since I don't have enough gloves to really test the capacity of the boxes. At most, I'd say you could safely increase the max for a medium flat rate box (I was testing the thinner longer one that opens on the ends) to 18 pairs and the max for a large flat rate box to 30 pairs. (Those numbers have a margin of error of 6 pairs, possibly more, so I'm fairly comfortable suggesting them.)

The formula of 1 pair thermo's being like 2.5 pairs of regular gloves to ship should stay... For my medium size gloves, it was more like 1 to 2, but the larger sizes get really bulky, more so than the large 370's.

I would be happy to simply send an extra $5 or $6 in case my order needs to go into the next sized box or have an envelope added. That would be easy to refund in the box (yes I know you're not "supposed to" put cash in the mail, but I don't think $5 in a box of gloves is a big deal LOL).

Not much time for me to be on the computer here. The day care center and schools are closed because of snow, so I'll have the kids all day. They get excited when I'm here and want my undivided attention.

Could you please DELETE the 6 thermals I previously ordered? Sorry for the confusion. That will reduce my order to a dozen of the 370s.

On a shipping note, I would suggest that you keep any pennies and simply refund to the lowest dollar overcharged, i.e., if I have overpaid by $2.75 just pop two dollars into my box. Seems easiest, and if you end up slightly ahead at the end of the day, you deserve it for the time/effort you have put into this order.

Sandy, mine is probably the smallest order with only 6 pair but please use either the small flat rate or medium flat rate box for my order if possible. I'd rather pay the extra postage than take a chance on the possibility of the gloves being damaged from the postal machines/equipment if an envelope were used. Smiling

Should we keep checking the spreadsheet to see when the color on our name changes? Or can we send the PayPal amounts any time now?

Rick I will announce on the thread here when to look for names being in pink. It won't be till after the 8th as that gives us time to make sure we have it all straight. No need to keep checking as I won't be collecting any money until a day or 2 after the 8th. The postage is the tricky part as there isn't a formula that I know to figure the amount of gloves times the amount we figure per box. That said so I am having to do it all long hand (a calculator won't even help Blinking Blinking Rolling on the floor laughing . I did it yesterday and will spend today checking and rechecking till I am sure I have each one right.

My brain is not what it use to be but I really don't mind doing it. If I did I wouldn't have taken this on. It is a little harder than I thought but so worth getting to know all of you and it thrills my heart to get ALL of us such a great deal on these gloves. I know I wouldn't be using them if I had to pay retail.

Danita I talked to them in the beginning and ordering the 144 pair is the lowest price per pair. Considering some said they sell for upward of 8.99 a pair retail we are getting a really Great deal.

I have had several suggest I round up anything and send only dollars back with no change. I do agree that will be the easiest for me. The flat rate is also the easiest for me as I am sorry but 36 boxes weighed and calculated and printed I wouldn't survive the process. Sandy, thanks for adjusting my order. I believe the shipping should now read $12.35 for a total of $39.75, correct? For a dozen gloves, that works out to less than $3.50 per pair which is a steal. Thanks for your time and effort!

Ok I just talked to Ron and have some news. The 370's price has been increased from $2.07 to $2.11, and the Thermals without a tag are now 2.08 . With the tag is now 2.28 but I am choosing to get them without the tag. You will notice a slight change in your prices on the 370's of 4 cents a pair and a drop of 10 cents a pair on the Thermals. The thermals with tags went to $2.28 but I didn't know there was a choice so I am choosing the ones without the tags for a price of 2.08 a pair.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Especially for Teri or Onewish1. Sad

I know that is right but he isn't the one making the decisions Sad Most of the time I figure salesmen don't know what price hikes are coming until it does. I don't like it either but I get more upset in the grocery stores as things don't hike just 4 cents and then they always get smaller also. A double whammy.

We are getting the cheapest price they offer anyone and compared to 5-8.99 a pair in the stores. I bet theirs will rise a quarter or more when it catches up with them. Well actually their profit margin is so great they shouldn't raise their prices but we all know they will. I worked in a fish store years ago and we sold guppies for over 2.00 a piece and the store paid .19 cents for them. I have a friend who works at a nursery and the owner pays 27.90 a piece for 25 gallon Magnolias and sells them for 179.00. I get really upset when I watch Shark Tank and the people who develop products say the cost to produce is 5 dollars or less and the item retails for 29.99 and up. So 4 cents doesn't bother me so much.

While talking about the subject of prices I have been to alot of auctions and antique stores over the last 6 months. Some antique places are trying to sell things for 1/2 of what they use to and still can't get it. I watch American pickers some times and what I would really like to see is how much they actually get for stuff and not what they project to get. There is a Giant difference in what they say and what they get. Their just isn't as much disposable income as use to be for people to play with.

Ron should go to his boss and ask for an exception for the nice lady from Texas he had already made a deal with.

Whatever. Just don't let it get you in a knot. None of us wants to "throw money away" but I think we're flexible enough to cut some slack to YOU and your little team of nice people trying to do a nice thing!
