To make seed photos more useful, it would be very informative if a ruler, scaled in millimeters and inches, could be included in the photo.
Thanks,

Another way to provide scale is to photograph the seeds on a background of graph paper, although then the grid size of the graph paper has to be explained in the photo caption or somewhere else.

Highly invasive in Australia; a declared pest in Western Australia. It is a good example of thigmonasty or seismonasty.

The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

@Gleni, that would be a good comment to add to the database entry itself rather than this seed picture thread. Just click on Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica) above jmorth's image, and under the Adding Actions on the left side, you'll see 'Post a comment'. Thumbs up

Oh, I thought I had placed it right this time.

Edit. I had another go. I think that I might have done it right now Sue. See what you think.

With a pen for scale, it would be pretty dicey to distinguish seeds that are 2-4mm in diameter, from a similar species whose seeds that are differentiated by being 4-6mm, wouldn't it? Confused

That particular shot works for me, personally. It's not comparing different seed sizes. And I don't know the difference between
2-4 & 4-6mm anyway, sorry. Not a measurement I ever use. Shrug! Hilarious!

After my silly post above, yes, I agree with your original post, using a ruler sure is helpful for visually sizing seed shots.
