I need help on using the data base, it seems when I am wanting to expand my search I am actually narrowing it.
For example when I search for daylilies with an early blooming period I pull up the max number of matches. When I select early and midseason periods I only pull up nine matches. This is just a an example, I make it very simple to illustrate the point. Is there a tutorial somewhere?

I'm guessing that what is happening is that instead of including plants from both categories, what is happening is that you're getting matches than include BOTH categories. To use your example, you're only bringing up daylilies that bloom both early and midseason. Does that make sense?

Ok, yes I had thought of that, but hoped that was not how it worked. Now, why when I do a search with just blossom size I am only pulling up 1 item. I tried 2-3, got one match. I thought maybe daylilies don't often have blooms that small, tried again 3-4, got one match, etc. Went back and cleared my search and tried again, same thing.

Must have done something wrong, I thought I was in the daylily search, but must have been in the all plants search. Forgive my error please.

I've had the same sort of confusion when trying to search the roses database. I'm not sure if we have the option of including all results that include any of the criteria instead of all the criteria. But I could be wrong. Smiling

There is no tutorial per se but we've explored making one in the past.

The Search By Characteristics is a "all must match" search. So if you check off multiple options then it will only show you plants that have ALL the options checked off.

Most Daylilies do not have a rating for rust, (resistant or not). So am I right in assuming that if there is not an entry for rust resistance that daylily is automatically kicked out of the search, if I entered that in my query.
