This is kind of an apples-oranges kind of conversation. Those of us in Canada, Wa, Oh , And Mi are a world away from Al and Ga and Or... I don't think the games involved resemble one another.

Wow. I checked my little tub this morning. I tried taking a picture, but the sprouts are really too small to see. But that's germination in 6 days. Just a few Pow Wow Wild Berry and some Hardy Hibiscus.

When you do Echinacea in vermiculite-do you also place the trays or pots under lights?

I didn't, but I'm thinking maybe I should have because one of the sprouts is really kind of tall and spindly. I stuck a light over them this morning.

Very cool, Woofie!

Some folks at Clint's Echinacea Cubit are growing them in vermiculite, too. Here's a link if you're interested

Thanks for the link; that's an interesting discussion. And DO you re-use the vermiculite?

I've thrown it into the mix for wintersown stuff, or just fling it into the yard. It's pretty cheap so I don't feel compelled to reuse it.

I add it to my compost.

I did vermiculite sowing BUT I used a mix of fine and course. I didn't have any medium. The really tiny seeds are struggling with the coarse. Then I decided to put a thin layer of fine vermiculite on top. Works much better. But this thread reminded me I needed to get my echinaceas started so they haven't germinated yet.
