Hi,
i am tired of looking at trees with yellow flowers(paloverde, tipu). I also have jacaranda and vitex. Looking for trees that don't care about our winters but have reddish flowers..etc. thanks in advance.

How about a bottle brush tree. My neighbor had two in her front yard and they are beautiful when in bloom.

Usha...

How about an ornamental plum tree. Dark foliage that turns purple in the fall and white or pink flowers in the spring. They don't grow very tall so they are easy to maintain and they are drought tolerant.

Usha,
Alan has posted some pretty trees. If you look at Alan's Garden in "Garden's of our members" you'll see his CHERRY HI CRAPE MYRTLE and a Cassia Leo-something. Also, I've always thought his Chinese Pistache was gorgeous when the leaves turn BRIGHT ORANGE. No flowers, however.

Also, I think I remember you posting a pic of a beautiful tree with feathery clusters of orange/red flowers... brownish leaves? Was it you? I can't find the pic.

Dann,
I like the ornamental plum tree. where can I buy one?
Hi susie,
I am hoping Alan will chime in. Crapemyrtle won't be a tree in my garden though. My soil is too alkaline and gets lots of reflected heat. I have 2 in containers and so far they are doing well and this is their first year. The tree I posted from SD is newzealand flax tree but I don't like it's leaves though. It is very cold sensitive and won't do well for us. Thumbs down

Hi Usha,

I have not purchased one since I moved to AZ, but I would wager that Marie would be able to help you out!

Usha, where are you going to plant this tree?

Susan, that is not a Chinese Pistache that I have that gets the beautiful orange, burgundy leaves. That is a Bradford Ornamental Pear. :)

Yes, the same as Boo has, but hers doesn't turn red. I'm wondering why. Perhaps not enough chill where she lives? Or, I give mine a strong dose of Chelated Iron every year, or else the leaves begin to look chloritic (Is that a word). They loose there color, almost white with very light green veins. And the leaves burn easy. The Iron brings them back to there full glory. Anymore I just put the iron down as soon as I've cleaned all the leaves up.
