Yes, I knew what it was. I'm very familiar with it, as it has covered one of my oak trees. I just thought it was most unusual attaching itself to the netting.

Oh, I'm sorry Sandi. *Blush* I thought you were looking for the ID.

I agree I"ve not seen it attaching itself like that before. Very unusual! Thumbs up

Oh, that's okay! I should have been more clear. I didn't notice the title of the thread! I remembered seeing a discussion of Tillandsias, and popped the pics in.

I had seen the "stuff" on the screening many times, but I just thought it was debris of some sort. Today, I really "looked" at some of the larger spots and realized what they actually were.

Ken, here's a link that could help you ID Florida bromeliads in the future. You can download the document as a pdf file.

I have found it very helpful to ID the Broms growing wild on my property.

Yep, that's a site I have previously visited and got some good information from it. I am presently growing four Florida varieties and one of those is in bloom, with pretty red, tipped in purple flowers.

Jumping in here with an ID request. Not sure if any of you can ID these but take a look and see what you can do for a newbie Tillandsia owner.

Holly, I think it will be difficult if not impossible to ID these Tillandsias. There are so many varieties that are similar and so many have now been hybridized. I was able to ID mine because I knew where they came from and they are species plants, not hybrids from a commercial grower.

Thanks, I really didn't think they were Identifiable but I am so new with these that I figured I would ask. These were freebies from a friend from my GH Assoc. He had no-id for them. I did purchase a few and have the ID's on them. I think I will do a wreath just waiting till I get around to picking up the Spanish Moss. Another friend from the GH Assoc has that.

Holly, if they bloom for you, be sure to post again. The blooms are much more unique to each plant than the leaves are.

The shorter of the long leaf plants had what looked like some very very tiny white bloom on it but they weren't attached and I truly wasn't sure they even came from the plant. Much Much too small to get a picture of.

HollyAnnS:

Just came upon this thread, and can say for sure that the little fat tilly in the lower left corner of your photo is definitely Tillandsia ionantha, and probably the little one above is, too. The medium-sized one might be T. harrisii. A good website with photos is www.rainforestflora.com . How have your airplants done for you since you posted?

My wreath is happily living in the GH right now. A friend is giving a lecture on living wreaths and wants to borrow it.

The chubby guy closest to the camera is Ionatha, I think. See if it turns red before it's about to bloom. The one next to it may be Bergeri. The bergeri have blue little blooms...and their pups sorta grow like that. Hard to say!
