Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Years ago when Bill was building the screen room, one nested in the shed. Whenever something was needed from it it was my job to fetch. I'd talk to Momma on the nest and get what was needed...sometimes she'd stay and sometimes not.

H8 to change the topic... but this cleaning out of nests... reminds me of a terrible criminal act that I recently discovered.

I saw a barn swallow at one of my gardens recently... Was excited... Mentioned it to the home-owner... only to discover dead babies a week or 2 L8r...

Seems... that waiting a week for the babies to fledge... was too much????

Beyond my comprehension...

I'm sick to my stomach.

Angry Angry
I know. I get upset when some businesses in a nearby town remove the barn swallow nests and the cave swallow nests! The carwash recently changed hands, but it's probably going to do the same thing the previous owner did. Back when many weren't disturbed years ago, that area was where I would go to look at the swallows and take pics. Not to mention the hooligans who go under the bridge nearby and shoot at nesting birds. Cruel, cruel, cruel.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

Awful, disgusting, horrid thing to do to destroy nests of any birds before they've fledged. Tsk, tsk, tsk. We have birds nests all over the place here where they've built on top of the decorative molding at the top of architectural columns. The house needs pressure cleaning - badly. Not about to do it until nesting season is over.

It is a really is a disgusting inhumane thing to do.

I'm pretty sure the Carolina wrens have built a nest in the Pilea microphylla (artillery fern). This one has a spread of about 36" in diameter and I saw a wren carrying a live insect into the ball of foliage. I can't see any sign of entry and I can't see the nest. This is a better choice for me than some other plants because they aren't going to do much damage. I can only hope the rat snakes don't find the wren home!
