I have no clue what this mysterious beauty could be.
I found it only twice during my frequent trips in the forest, growing in deep shade in the leaf litter.
The plants were rather small, no bloom unfortunately.
The dark green leaves have a velvety touch and have glittering silver irregular vein drawings that aren't actually true veins.
Location: rainforest, Paraty, Rio de Janeiro state.

Any suggestion much appreciated! Smiling

It looks very much like Fittonia albivensis except the leaves are more elongated, it seems to me.

Thank you all for input!

Goodyera hispida certainly looks very close Lin, apart from the paler section in the middle of the leaf which mine doesn't have, the only problem is that the genus doesn't occur in Brazil according to the 'Flora do Brasil'
A side view would have been good Green, but the plant grows so low to the ground that it would have been very difficult without damaging the plant and it was very dark too.

Forgot to say that the also very resembling Macodes also doesn't occur in Brasil..

I do have another photo though from the second smaller plant I found but that might not make us any wiser..

I also think now that the silver lines are more irregular than with Goodyera, they really glitter when exposed to a light beam.

I'm really not good at comparing photo's but it just reminds me of a Jewel Orchid.

Thank you so much Lin, you have been so very helpful, it also resembles much like Ludisia, but none of the genus is to be found in Brazil again..

Give the genus Anoectochilus a look. They are found in Brazil and are among the Jewel Orchids. Many of them have shiny metallic threads(veins) running through the leaves.

Anoectochilus really brings us on the right genus track, Jean!
I searched on the 'Flora do Brasil' It said none of the genus occurs in Rio de Janeiro state but when I searched for the whole of Brazil it came with two species:
http://floradobrasil.jbrj.gov....
Anoectochilus argenteus and Anoectochilus pictus.
I feel sure it is Anoectochilus argenteus! Hurray!
I think plants often don't know they shouldn't occur in another state than mentioned in the Flora do Brasil.. Rolling my eyes.

I took a look at the synonyms....oh my.... As for it not showing up in Rio de Janeiro state...I agree....they did not tell the plant it couldn't be there... Whistling

I knew when I saw the picture, that Lin was spot on, it is indeed a member of the Jewel Orchid Alliance. Thumbs up Glad to be of help, Myriam.

Anoectochilus argenteus does occur in Rio de Janeiro Myriam..

Geographic distribution

Nordeste (Bahia)

Sudeste (Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo)

Sul (Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina)

The link reverts to Orchidaceae as a whole, I took a snip.

Lovely plant, nice shots! Smiling

Thanks Janet! Smiling

I looked it up again in the Flora do Brasil, and now I see I've looked to hastily and didn't read further! It says on top: 'No records found' above
It bit confusing Confused

I used the home page of Flora do Brazil Myriam, then click the green button on the bottom for 'Brazilian Flora Checklist'.

http://reflora.jbrj.gov.br/jab...

The page you get is what I originally had in my favourites, choose Angiosperms in the Group tab, and Orchidaceae in Family then click search. It was on page 3 for me.
