Keeping It Tidy

Just after the threat of frost has passed, and sometimes before, garden clubs and county gardening organizations will hold their annual, or semi-annual, plant sale.

Thank you Becky. I put my excess plants in mismatched throw-away pots for gifts, garden sales, club trades, etc. year round and this not only keeps them together but keeps the garden looking good.

I've designated an out of the way garden space to be the "holding" spot, but I think that this works much better because they can be enjoyed immediately as part of the garden and will be in close proximity to the area that I would want them in!! I'm going to start looking for a huge tub!!

Nice - and somewhat more feasible than my sand-box-holding-area dream...

Like the idea of raising up the small pots with bricks! Does the large container have drainage?

Yes, Anna it does have drainage. I purchase old tubs and zinc buckets cheaply wherever I can find them to incorporate into my garden. Most have rusted spots or holes and are perfect for plantings or holding areas. The ones without holes are used for catching rainwater, general washing chores in the garden and buckets without holes hold a lot of my Louisiana irises in pots. They love a little bit of water on their roots, especially during our hot and dry summers. Once you have a tub on hand you will find many uses for it.

And Teri you are so right! A tub of mixed blooms in the garden will temp you to let them live there for awhile. lol

Thank you all for the kind words for my little tip. Pass it on like we pass on plants. smiles
