Linda, that male Painted Bunting is gorgeous!! I sure miss those beauties; used to see them at our other house (@ a mile away) all the time but haven't seen one in 2 1/2 years now. We'd always get more of the females (greenish) than the colorful males.

Becky: Those Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are gorgeous, love the color variations! In the first photo, is that a Tufted Titmouse on the left with it's head inside the feeder?

Or maybe a Carolina Chickadee?

Dave, we're glad to see you back ~~~ it seemed you were MIA for a while.

Thanks Ann. Well most of my gardening activity is shut down during the winter and as you probably know it takes a lot of work getting everything ready for spring. I have been coming to the forum pretty regularly just haven't had much of my own to post about. Everything is planted now and ready to go. Still may have to replace my fig tree as it looks as if the last frost on the 15th of April might have taken it out. Hoping I have a lot more wild flowers and butterflies this year. General counts in the area seem to be up from a year ago. Birds have found the feeders. Won't be long before I'll have lots to photograph and share with you guys. I learn so much from here and you guys are such enabler$.

Last day of the month so here goes from my backyard ...

This morning a male Red-bellied Woodpecker visited one of the suet feeders. The last photo I flipped sideways for the profile view:


And, this afternoon a Downy Woodpecker visited but I startled him from the feeder and he flew to the Cypress tree. It was very cloudy this afternoon so this isn't the clearest picture.

LIn, Ann is right. Its a Carolina chickadee. They can be really bossy. I've seen them chase Red-bellies off the feeder. Your Red-belly is a beauty. I had both a male Downey and male Hairy at the suet today. Flew away before I could get a picture. Would love one to show the size contrast.

Becky: I wish we had Carolina Chickadees down this way but I've never seen one ... or the beautiful Rose-breasted Grosbeak either. We reportedly have both Hairy and Downy WP's here but the only ones I've ever seen are the little Downy ... they are regulars and very abundant like the Red-bellied.

We have the Carolina Chickadee's here but I have yet to get a photo of one. They show up at the feeders & are so quick & wary that they are gone before I can get the camera.
