What kind of rock is that?

It is feather rock. A volcanic rock that is lighter than most types of rock. But even that one is 300 pounds. You have to be careful when working with it, it can sure cut you up. http://www.koiphen.com/forums/...

You can get them in all sizes. We sure had a time getting that one in place.

I might get one in the fall. I live down the street from a stone yard. We get river rocks, top soil, gravel and mulch, there is a whole mountain of any kind you could want. The going rate for boulders is .20 cents a pound depending on what kind of rock. I am not sure about Feather Rock, but a 300 pound boulder usually runs around $60.00. Then there is delivery.....

They loaded our rock into our little pick-up. We then backed up to the retaining wall and placed heavy boards for a ramp and slid it somewhat into place. From there we used crowbars to move it into the position we wanted it.
That was about 8 years ago. Today I would have to have it delivered and placed.

I know what you mean, sounds like a lot of work. Yes, for me it has to be a delivery, they charge 75.00 and drive a flat bed tractor trailer out to your house with a fork lift on there. LOL. (not such a bad price actually.) Maybe next year and I will get my money's worth by purchasing a ton of river rocks along with the boulder. Love those things!
