Maia was lost, found by sweet people who got her cleaned up and to a vet, then adopted by a couple who do love her dearly. They have realized, though, that Maia has trouble negotiating the steep stairs that lead to the backyard where she needs to go pee. Because of the way those stairs are built, a ramp is out of the question.

Maia is an older girl and she is good with cats and all the people she's met. She's very obedient and loving. Maia's current family will not release her to a shelter; they want to find a home that's best for Maia. Can you open your heart - and door - to this sweet girl?

Nobody...?

My house is full, overfull to be exact, or I would take her in. She reminds me of my childhood dog who was the best dog ever.

Maia sounds like the perfect dog! I still have an akita and a domestic short hair cat in foster. I'll pass on Maia's info!

Thanks, Crista. I think it's sad that older pets, like older people, just aren't valued highly. Maia has the good fortune of people who love her - and the misfortune of a difficult house. Fingers crossed for a perfect solution...

Alma, do you get the sense that Maia needs to be an only dog, or could she go into a family that has a dog of similar personality?

Crista, she seems to love people and dogs and cats. According to Aaron, she's very mellow and loving. I asked about her a couple of days ago. Unless a better home can be found, they will keep her and deal with the problems. If you have an idea, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Maia is a very lucky girl. School starts in a couple of weeks so that will widen the circle of people I can get infor out to. Does she have a hip problem that's causing the problem with the stairs?

They think she's just a bit arthritic. I talked to them about giving her glucosamine/chondroitin and they were going to start her on the tablets. I have an older dog with stiff hips. He takes a little time getting up so I give him g/c plus baby aspirin and it seems to help a lot. Thanks for thinking of her. I'll get an update and let you know what's going on.
