We are still weeks away from first lily bloom here so in anticipation I drudged up this old thread about my visit to Mak's in 2011. The photos are pretty but the part I like best is the degeneration of the thread into a scheme to pilfer Mak lilies (destined for culling) from the field after dark. Enjoy (again)!

Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

Here is a precursor to my upcoming lily season (photo taken today). All of those reddish stems near the center are Tropical Isle trumpet lily clones, 12 of them.

Looks nice Connie. Most of my stems are not that tall yet. I'm still looking for noses and others are to about 4" tall.

They may not be lily trees, but it's sure going to be a lily forest! Big Grin

Those are just my short ones... many on the west side of my house are up a good 4 feet... OTs and LA. It looks like I lost Calgary Tower and maybe Firetruck over the winter Sad .

Connie: I love the "palm tree " stage of lily growth. That is going to be a vibrant spot come bloom time.

Morning After and Sunnyside Down, two new Mak-Leek introductions of Oriental X L. henryi, obtained through Faraway Flowers. While many breeders of OT's are moving farther away from L. henyri, Mak has bred back to it. Good Idea!

Huge, yes. All the Mak bulbs I've purchased over the past couple years have been very large, regardless of who I bought them from. Solid and heavy!

Thanks, Connie. Of course, there's at least one pricey back-up clone in there we share a common interest with. I've got about 70 pots in there now--another 4 weeks or so and the pots will be ready to place in between the rows amongst the older lilies for the summer.
