I am building an 8 x 6 foot trellis for a climbing rose. This will be in full sun, zone 9b, and I would like a multicolored rise. Any suggestions?

There's a newer version of Joseph's Coat called Jacob's Robe that is very much a multicolored rose.
Berris and Cream and Candyland are each pink and white striped.
Those three all do very well in fairly harsh conditions here in Kansas. One thing you can do to make a rose look even more multicolored is to plant a clematis next to it, and train it to climb through the rose. Lovey dubby

I know there's other roses--maybe our database is searchable on that? I'll take a look, but just wait a bit, others will come up with some more climbers.

Yep, Rose (Rosa 'Jacob's Robe') is colorful, I take lots of pictures of it!
Better vigor, hardiness and disease resistance than Joseph's Coat.

Thanks Sue and Cindi. I just looked at some photos Jacob's Robe. That is the rose I am looking for. Thanks for the great suggestion.

When you say multicolored, are you thinking of stripes or a blend? Fourth of July is a really good striped climber, for example, and Westerland is a good multicolored blend.

Thanks Zuzu. I have always loved the color of Joseph's Coat. Now that there is hardier version, Joseph's Robe, I can't wait to put one in my garden.

I'm familiar with Joseph's Coat. I don't have it but I've planted it for friends and satisfaction has been good. My personal opinion, I'd look into the Robe introduction. Much potential with either, my taste in roses runs another direction. In some gardens I've seen Joseph's Coat perform incredibly well. Easy to procure and try, it can be amazing.

Edit to add years 3 and beyond have shown more color. Perhaps my luck or planting locations but it hasn't reached potential/goal for me early. Plenty of blooms early on but color variation has taken time (years). I'm not a good rose guy, I consider them expendable. That said I've not replaced Joseph's Coat to date.

Just don't go with Charles de Mills. Absolutely beautiful rose, smells wonderful, big beautiful fuchsia blooms, but THORNS THORNS THORNS. Here's mine.
