Ah... Glen. To be so lucky to be eaten by sweet potato vines. Is that what your quip "avoiding being eaten" means? Green Grin!

Irish potatoes take from 3 to 4 months from cuttings to harvest here. I mainly watch for the tops to die back before digging the crop.

Sweets will usually grow the summer long. I have a small patch of them growing in a raised bed and hope to trellis the vines.
