I saw this plant at the NY Botanical Gardens. It was named Sphaeropteris horrida but I can't put it in the ATP because it says it isn't a valid name. Since the name could have been changed since the NYBG made the sign I just want to know what is the current genus and species of this plant. The plant is from Mexico & Central America. Here are some photos of the plant.

Thanks for your help!

The Catalogue of Life shows that Sphaeropteris horrida is a synonym for Cyathea bourgaei and as you found, it's not in our database. I've added it for you:

Blonde Tree Fern (Sphaeropteris horrida)
