Where do those posts go sometimes??? I wonder?

Your "quietyard" looks pretty too, Linda. That's a great user name!

Ric, I had a huge Colocasia on the left end of that bed last year but that was the one that drowned this Spring when the seasonal stream kept rising into that area.
Grumbling

Is Jack's Giant the same as Thailand Giant? I want some of the black EE as well as some other colors (or are those only Alocasias?). Any recommendations? There are a few colorful Caladiums back there that are just coming up.

That bed has been the bane of my gardening existance here so far. I've gotten poison ivy from working back there at least three or four times this year and a few times last year. I sprayed (you can see the dead stuff in one of the shots) but not sure I got it all. It creeps out of the woods when and where you least expect it sometimes. Blinking

LOL. The edging for that bed is one of my reclaimed/repurposed yard art projects in progress. It's made of inexpensive pieces of white edging bought on Clearance at Kmart last Fall, 3L wine bottles turned upside down with necks in the ground, old sea shells and various other components like burned out solar lights (one has the red glass vase glued on top of it - nice in the morning sun - going to do more of those). The chainlink has the beginning of the "faces on the fence" collection. Hilarious! Thrift store finds and after hanging them there, I've decided to add more. Maybe they'll scare off the poison ivy!!
Sad

Debra, I agree ... life is too short for bad coffee. Hilarious! I'm going to add more colored glass vases as I find them and line them up in a place or two. I thought they were just 'OK' until I saw the light shining through them ... and that took them to a whole new level. Thumbs up

Treemail me on the Colocasia.... I have a grunch of them....
Jack's Giant is a strain of the old fashion 'Cannon Ball' EE's you used to see all over in bins at the Nurseries.
Different a bit smaller, but FAR more hardy, than the Thai Giant.

Look for Jewel Weed in your yard.
If you have PI you might find the Jewel Weed in the moister areas.
Crush the stems and rub it on areas hit w/ PI or Stinging Nettle. The sticky sap counteracts the PI oils. Eases the Nettle Burn.

Thanks for posting that, Jo Ann. I am going over to look at all your pictures soon.

Yes, that Tamara does very good work!

Those Colocasias are spectacular, Ric! I will definitely be contacting you! Big Grin

Sorry for the quality of this pic. I let Mother Nature and Father Time remove the labels. OK, call me lazy. Whistling This is an earlier picture but still a work in progress. I had thought about filling the bottles with white sand or another color ... but that is a lot of work! Is that a 'Jack's Giant' on the right, do you think? That largest leaf is now pushing 24" in length. I know the one next to it on the left is 'Lime Aide', smaller leaves but such nice coloration.

What a coincidence. A friend of mine had written an article about Yellow Jewelweed (Impaiens pallida). That started me researching and I discovered the Orange Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) . Well, that rang a bell and I dashed to the back fenceline with camera in hand. Voila! Loaded with it.

I like the more subtle look of the clear glass as it is used with the white/stone color edging. There is an almost water-like visual flow that might not be present if the glass was filled. Smiling

Jo Ann ... what is the spotted plant in your second Picasa picture? Fantastic looking plant! Thumbs up

Debra, I agree. I am a big fan of clear glass or in this case, the very slightest green tint that the wine bottles have. Be sure to show the results of your defunct solar lights project.

Janice, beautiful ... the daylily upper right is? Purple and chartreuse is just about my favorite color combo in the garden at the moment.

I hope I have something left for next month. The weather is just atrocious. They say the heat is going to break next week and that can't come fast enough for me. I saw an 88 in the forecast. Glorious!!!
