I grew up in WI, north of Milwaukee. Our back neighbor was a prof at (then) Milwaukee State teachers college & his 40ft wide back yard was nothing but irises with boards to walk on. I used to stand on the lower bar of our picket fence & chat. (My dad had built the fence probably to keep ball etc out of his garden.) No wonder irises are my favorite flower, although I didn't know about dwarfs then.
