With regard to shad or full sun, I've been hearing for more years than I care to think about that 'high scattered pine shade' is great for them.

John, in our relentless sun here in Fl. I would say that's a perfect place to plant them. DL's are very tough & can take full Fl. sun but they almost always do better with a little relief from it especially during summer when we can have 12 hours of "inferno" conditions.
