So yesterday was the Japanese Iris show for WNEIS (Western New England Iris Society). We needed 5 members to contribute entries but only had 3 so we could not have an official show. Anyone want to join us and grow JIs???? The next JI show is in 2 years.
What we did was have the members who didn't contribute entries judge the show and they did phenomenally well at judging. Here are some pics. Turned out that I had the most in bloom so I let the arrangers take my flowers for their arrangements. The room was set up with 2 rectangular Japanese gardens and the entries surrounding them on the floor so you could look down into them. Other species and arrangements were on tables. We brought any species that were in bloom now.
The morning of the show something new appeared!
The judging process.
Some of the arrangements.
The results were so interesting! Many different species were winners, not just Japanese.
Third Runner Up, LA iris Hush Money (mine). Second runner Up, Japanese iris R. Giskard (mine). Ist Runner Up, Spuria.
I can attest that this show was beautifully done. We saw some real treasures, mostly Boojums. When I got back to Nantucket tonight, I see we have a couple now out, but not as many as I had hoped. I think I flunked at Ensata this year. Patti
Patti really made my day by stopping by with her DH!! I actually screamed!
How old are the JIs? It really takes about 3 years to get good bloom. Also they are heavy feeders. They would like acid miracle grow or manure every month from May-August.
Boojum, You did scream. And you had some screaming great Iris for us to see too. Loved seeing some of Polly's so well grown. I am going to start to feed ours asap as prescribed by Dr. B. Some of mine are older than 3 years, but some new. Patti
