Some black tipped buds on a nice head of 'Lion heart'. My first year L. henryi. Not sure if something is wrong with it or not. Looks like the buds are aborting but bottom of the stem looks strong and healthy. Finally my first and only martagon, 'Sunny Morning'. It's showing thirteen buds. I'm excited.

My last appearing stem. It's African queen. Coming up very late but healthy looking. Kind of surprising because most other fall planted or previously planted lilies are way up.

The taller stems are 'Lankon' and the next pic is of the developing buds on my big Lankon. I think I counted 11 buds which I'm very excited about considering there were only three flowers last year. The next pic is a very nice head of 'Tiger Play'. A tall plant with many buds.

My mystery seedling is now looking like a 1c asiatic more than ever and I do agree with @bearsearch that this lily looks like it could be L. pumilum. This next one is a speciosum rubrum that I got from a friend. A few of the lower leaves have yellowing on them. Not sure why. Hoping it's not a virus but again it looks very healthy otherwise.

Della, no idea! Could that be causing the yellow streaks?

Well, the rest of the foliage in general looks nice and green, so I really don't know. If it was too alkaline I'd think all the foliage would go pale and yellow off. On the other hand, it doesn't look like any virus syptoms that I've seen, Maybe something temperature-related or mechanical during early emergence?

Ha! I was just about to post same, when I saw that Della had already replied:

I assume the yellow "streaks" on the lower leaves were there from the start. If that's the case, than it was caused by environmental exposure, like cold. If you envision the affected leaves in their early stages at a single point in time, you'll notice that the lower leaves that are affected most would have been the most exposed in the sprouting stage, and would somewhat protect the upper inner leaves. The upper ones would only have had their ends exposed, and the yellowing symptom concurs. Definitely not virus.

Definitely like Tiger Play!

Third year for "mine" (purchased for my house-- just not there yet), stalks are at 36", 44" and 48" with around 15 buds per. Very showy, it adds a lot of early summer color. Of the Asiatic varieties I've grown it's my favorite so far.

Thanks Rick and Della. The yellow was there from the start. Wes, if you like tiger play then you should check out 'Lion Heart'. It's very similar to tiger play but the tango pattern is almost black and the buds have a unique look to them before they open.

Sounds like a good one Joe. I bought TP as a companion for Tiny Sensation which may or may not still exist on my property at this point in time. (it's not yet seen a mower or string trimmer yet this year, I'll need to be very careful!)

Truth of the matter being that I have a preference for taller lilies. I do like the dwarf Asiatic and shorter Orientals for pots that I can move about to suit my (or their) particular needs but for "in ground" plantings I do prefer bigger, bolder presence.

Nice surprise! I was clearing out an orphan garden a couple days ago and look what I found! I have no idea what it will be or where it came from--kind of a nice mystery. The stuff that gets planted in here is big box store stuff that 'plain-jane' gardeners bring here when they're done with it, etc., so it didn't come that route. I put a rabbit fence around this little one.

I think I'll nick-name this one Uncle Sam. The original stock was ordered from B&D as 'The Spirit Of 76' collection several years ago. It was a package mix of about 12 different color Trumpets. I moved them again last Fall and this Spring some of them came up real 'leggy'. Not sure why; they certainly were planted deep enough.

Just wondering what would happen if I mounded two of them with an extra 5 or 6 inches of dirt, if that would encourage more stem roots and bulk the bulb up more. The extra dirt would be removed in the Fall to maintain the correct depth.

Bell Towers planted Fall 2013. Does one look different or is it just me? All three bulbs looked the same.

I also unintentionally did the same experiment as Lorn with the scaled bulbs. I did it with a few groups but these two were planted as three bulbs and 1 pit bulb. You can see in each group that there is one that is shorter. These were done with partially sprouted spring planted bulbs.

My seedling is really starting to look like it could be L. Pumilum or a hybrid of it. The bud is starting to redden up and it looks very similar to Jmorth's photo of it that he has posted this year.

Lankon has shown to be very vigorous where I live. In one year it went from two bulbs that had four and three buds to three mature bulbs with 4, 8, and 20 buds! There is also 1-3 juvenile stems which will not bud this year. I will post a before and after shot as this years mature but of all the stems I've seen pictures of online, I don't think I've seen more than low "teens" in bud count. Very excited for this years display.

Well the mystery may be solved! I believe my seedling x to be L. pumilum. I believe Brian(@bearsearch) was the first to call it while I stupidly thought it was division 6. This seedling is very vigorous and I took the other two buds off. It even appears to have an offset at the base. Funny thing is that it was from a packet of mixed lily seeds I got from NALS for joining. Only took one year to flower. Awesome! Love the color. Anyone know of anything I can cross it to? I may put some L. Duchartrei pollen on it for fun.
