Cinta : I rarely smell my flowers. These species glads ar in a spot where its not possible to lean in to sniff.
It must look great against the big canna leaves.
Here are a few containers from yesterday afternoon.

The ones I had years ago I had planted around a pond and the fragrance wafted across the pond I did not know they were fragrant so they were the last thing I smelled. They were the last thing I thought of as fragrant. The fragrance was as strong as a oriental lily.
I always plant glads in pots with my tropicals because it adds flowers and the tropicals I grow usually only have pretty leaves. Cannas and Bananas.

I have planted caladium bulbs several times, and had very little luck with them. The squirrels dig them up most of the time, or sometimes if the weather is very hot and dry they just shrivel up. I was surprised to see some caladium leaves pop out of my front planter box as I posted awhile back. I am again surprised to see more and more and more coming up. This has never happened before in my yard -- I am really enjoying it. Wish I had planted more of them!

Yummy Jeanie they are gorgeous. I love your combo. You are getting a flower. Be sure to smell it and report back if you smell a fragrance. I had one in a to my chest level planter at my front door. I smelled something as I was going in the door and it was a flower. It smelled like lemons.

I did not know that caladiums would flower - I thought that was just a leaf coming up that hadn't unfolded yet -- nor did I know they had fragrance. Oh goodie goodie

This morning I had caladium blooms - and yes, they do have a lemony fragrance. It looks like there will be several more coming too. Here are the photos:

They sure do perk up that fence! Very colorful. I haven't tried anything quite like that because it is too hot and too dry for too long in the summer here. I mostly stick to bigger containers.
