I'd like to add this image to the database. The plant is growing under hemlocks on the edge of my property in zone 4, Vermont and was blooming last week.

Look at Trientalis borealis or related plants. I'm only guessing.

So do you think I should move the image from Trientalis borealis to Trientalis borealis ssp. borealis? The information/images I found on these sites last night show images as Trientalis borealis.

I offered links to help you do the research. You have the actual plant; all we have is the photo. You can research and compare the fine points of detail to see exactly which plant you have. I would guess the photo is fine where it is unless and until you find some detail which would cause you to move it.

It is such a pretty little plant and you are lucky to have it. Thumbs up

"ssp." = subspecies. Unless you are sure of that distinction, moving it would be incorrect. Like a Venn diagram, all plants would fit in the first, not all in the latter.

What a cute little plant, BTW!

It's questionable if Trientalis borealis subsp. borealis is even a valid name. According to the Catalog of Life, there is a single species (Trientalis borealis) with two subspecies (Trientalis borealis subsp. borealis and Trientalis borealis subsp. latifolia) According to ITIS, there are two separate species (Trientalis borealis and Trientalis latifolia).

Right now the ATP database is sort of in between the two, and we'll have to dig into it a bit more to figure out whether to follow ITIS or the CoL. You should leave your picture where it is as it's possible the Trientalis borealis subsp. borealis entry will be going away. And, either way, the picture is appropriate where it currently sits.

Thank you for all the information. While searching last night I found conflicting information on several sites similar to what you have posted Kent. Some sites mentioned the ssp. but never went any further in making a distinction between the species and ssp. Happy to know I put the image in the right spot for now. I tip my hat to you.
