We went for a Sunday drive and stopped at the road rest stop in New Jersey off Route 80. This very unusual flower was in bloom. I think it might be an azalea but I am not sure. Can anyone help me out?

Yes to Azalea (Rhododendron)...possibly Azalea 'Shugetsu'?
