Thanks Vic. I am not a teacher in the traditional sense but I am a Nuclear Plant Simulator Instructor . I train and qualify nuclear reactor plant operators. I've been at it almost 4 decades now. Since I submitted this I have a later progress report. I took these photos minutes ago. This is 2 days shy of 4 weeks since planting. Good growth and that is a photo of my very first Gloriosa flower that just opened this morning.






The vines are loaded with buds and I'd say within the next 2 weeks or so the display will be excellent. Thank you all for the kind comments and the acorns. You guys are magnificent.

A great article, Dave, and one of my most favorite climbers; also one that Jmorth introduced to me in early 2012. I truly love the gloriosas. To me it was like a whole new discovery after 50+ years of gardening. I wanted to say, 'Where have you beauties been all my life?'

These are one of the highlights of my garden.
Mine have been in the ground for about 6 years, and each year they get bigger and better.
Keeping your tubers and storing over winter if you can't leave them in the ground will reward you with a great show year after year.
Another bonus, is that Hummingbirds will nectar from them.

I had read that they intensify in color but I guess I either didn't believe or underestimated the change.

We have one that is more than 10 years old and it blooms so beautifully that I do want more of them.





They are planted and never have been moved. Should I dig and divide them?
